Warehouse Prices

School Administrator, Oct, 1995

Her official title is manager of school-business partnerships for the Chesterfield County schools, but Sally Keeler sometimes feels more like a warehouse manager.

Keeler is credited with setting up and operating a districtwide program that allows teachers and administrators to acquire materials and equipment for their classrooms and offices from a 9,500-square-foot warehouse stocked with excess items donated by Richmond-area businesses. The inventory ranges from reams of clean paper to slate tops for science laboratories and desktop terminals.

Now in its second year, the "Crayons to Computers" program is open two afternoons a week.

"We're able to provide things that go beyond what the budget could manage," says Keeler, who estimates last year's giveaways exceeded $1 million in value.
