Anti-Drug Programs - service by the Department of Education - Brief Article

School Administrator, Oct, 2001

Project ALERT, a widely used, research based drug prevention program in the nation's schools, has been designated exemplary by the U.S. Department of Education. The RAND-developed program was one of only nine recommended for its quality and effectiveness.

Project ALERT, which stands for Adolescent Learning Experiences in Resistance Training, was developed in the mid-1980s and more than half a million middle school students have taken the classes.

Materials and training are disseminated by the Best Foundation, a Los Angeles-based organization.
