Karen A. Budan

After four years as superintendent of the Napoleon, Mich., Community Schools, Karen Budan is taking over the top spot of the Glendale, Ariz., Elementary School District. Previously, Budan served as the executive director of curriculum and instruction for the Airport Community Schools in Carleton, Mich.

Emery Dosdall

Emery Dosdall is now a deputy minister in the British Columbia Ministry of Education in Victoria, Canada. He spent 16 years in administration in Edmonton, Alberta, before leaving to serve as superintendent in Langley, British Columbia. He returned to Edmonton in 1995 as superintendent. Dosdall taught at University of Alberta.

Doris J. Kurtz

A first-time superintendent, Doris Kurtz takes over the top spot in New Britain, Conn. Kurtz came into administration as coordinator of human relations in Kenosha, Wis., then moved to Bridgeport, Conn., as assistant superintendent of secondary education. She returned to Kenosha as assistant superintendent of instruction.

Sharon A. Lease

Oklahoma City, Okla., has a new chief academic officer in Sharon Lease. She came to the district from the Oklahoma State Department of Education, where she held the post of deputy state superintendent. Lease previously was superintendent of the Western Heights Public Schools in Oklahoma City.

Carol S. Parham

In January, Carol Parham moves into higher education as a professor of practice in education leadership at University of Maryland, College Park. She has served since 1994 as superintendent of Anne Arundel County in Annapolis, Md., where she earlier worked as director of human resources. Parham also supervised personnel in Howard County, Md.

Rebecca Perry

Alexandria, Va., has its first female superintendent in Rebecca Perry. She previously served as superintendent of the Mecklenburg County Public Schools in Boydton, Va. Earlier, she served 21 years in Fauquier County, Va., as an associate superintendent, director of instructional technology and vocational and adult education and a teacher.
