School uniforms

School Administrator, Oct, 2005

Sociologist David Brunsma, an assistant professor at the University of Missouri, has published a study "The School Uniform Movement and What It Tells Us About American Education: A Symbolic Crusade." The decade-long study indicates that uniforms worn to school by students have no positive effect on achievement or behavior.

Instead, the researcher reported, a uniform policy may have negative effects in schools by increasing the division between economic status in schools and drawing the focus away from fundamental problems within schools.
