ANTiSEEN - band member Jeff Clayton - Brief Article - Interview

Thrasher Magazine, Oct, 2001

THE SCOURGE OF THE CAROLINAS...

For nearly two decades this band has driven fear into the hearts of the faint, and disgust into the hearts of the politically correct. Making no apologies, ANTiSEEN plows ahead; bulldozing all sacred cows along their path, and putting wicked grins on the faces of those who realize that along with being an American comes the right to exercise free speech--even when wielding a bat covered in barbed wire while draped in a Confederate flag and your forehead is gushing so much blood that Terry Funk would be proud.

Jeff Clayton (lead vocals): We've been together for 18 years; this August will be 19 for us. I don't know what the exact count of our releases is up to, but if you count every 7", comp track, and side project, it's up and over 50.

Hell yeah, man. Wrestling is the most important thing in life. I love the old NWA, AWA, and Mid Atlantic stuff we grew up on; all the way up to ECW and the current WWF; to all the crazy Japanese stuff like FMW, WING, and BIG JAPAN. Plus the new crop of independents like XPW... Life is just one big wrestling angle, anyway.

Just a group of bands who get together to throw a party every year. The groups involved to this point besides ourselves are Rancid Vat, Cocknoose, Hellstomper, Limecell, The Tunnel Rats, Bootleg Bill, and The Frankenstein Drag Queens, plus some of the side projects of each of these groups. I get people asking me all the time, "Can we be in the COS?" Truth is, that ain't my department. Besides, more times than not, If ya have to ask...you ain't gonna be in anyway. It's not some little exclusive club either like some people think. We're on some really good working terms with groups who aren't involved in the COS like Born Bavarian, Dead Kings, Hammerlock, Rupture, and The Nerds. So, to sum it all up, nothin' but a party.

Primitive. Like when time began.

Not "sort" of, Joe Young is a politician. He was asked to run by the NC Libertarian Party. He didn't win, but he did pull in 16 percent of the vote against his Republican opponent.

He was a friend. We recorded one full length album with him and two singles, one of which was his very last recording ever. We were also fans. He was a big inspiration to us as a band. I didn't agree with everything he said or did, but I had a ton of respect for him as a performer.

We must play Japan It is our destiny We'll keep thinking the next year will be our last, but all it takes is for one person to seem like they'd be pleased by our demise and that's enough to keep us going for about another five years. The way I see it, we're committed to at least another 15.
