Poets Corner - On Board - Poem

Thrasher Magazine, August, 2002 by Samuel Patterson

Poets Corner

Pushing down the street
the asphalt ahead stretches short of infinity
years of preparation brought me to this moment
my muscles run on experience, as my only thought is
forward
What came first? Day or night?
Everything is behind me
Everything is in front of me.
I accelerate on my skateboard
leaving me behind as I go forward.
Backside lipslides, traveling and slappies,
and all the things that make skateboarding great.
They do not matter now
as I push to go faster than myself
