Jereme Rogers: "buy a dog, name him something cool"

Thrasher Magazine, August, 2003 by Sam Smyth

How old are you?

18.

And you're still making crank calls?

Yeah, sometimes.

Are you still a vegetarian?

Yep, for life,

You ever consider eating meat?

Not really, it's gross.

Do you remember the last piece of meat you ate?

Yeah, two years ago I had a piece of Popeye's Chicken in Japan. There was nothing else to eat. I felt pretty gross.

Where are you originally from?

Boston.

Was it hard to leave home, to come to Southern California?

Naw, not really. It's frickin' cold there. It sucked.

What's it like living in The Valley?

Good. There's not a lot to skate, but there's skateparks, and there's not a lot of traffic, like in Hollywood.

Have you seen Thrashim?

No. I've seen Gleaming The Cube, with Val Kilmer.

You mean Christian Slater?

Yeah, Christian Dior.

Benzino or Eminem?

Eminem.

Why not Benzino? He represents the "Bad Streets of Boston."

Yeah, but he lost. Game over. I don't like Benzino or Ja Rule. They can eat shit.

Do you ever feel abandoned by your surrogate parents, Mike and Scott?

Yeah, I feel like they haven't been taking good care of me. I'm looking to them for guidance and there's no one to point me in the right direction.

At least Carroll didn't leave you hangin' when you got arrested for pushing a security guard.

Yeah, he did help me out with that.

How was prison?

It was cool. Janky toothbrushes and beds, good oranges.

No vegetarian plates?

No, the vegetarian cafe was closed during my visit.

So you made your first big purchase, a Lincoln Aviator, and managed to crash it within a month. How did that happen?

A horse ran out into the road and when I swerved to miss it I hit a tree, a street light, and a telephone pole. I totaled my truck and shut down the power for the whole block--In-n-Out, 7-11, and Cosmic Bowling. Cosmic Bowling was pissed.

What have you been doing with you days lately?

Skate in the morning, hang out with my girl when she gets out of school, and hit the skatepark around 7pm.

You love skating, right?

Yeah, I do. I do, I do.

Does anything sound better than touring the world and skating new spots?

Yeah, that's good.

Hanging out with your girlfriend...

Uh, hanging out with my girlfriend too,

Does Rick pick on you a little too much on tour?

Yeah, but I've been bulking up. I'm not too worried about it next time.

What's your favorite terrain?

Ledges and flat.

Was the Phoenix Am Jam the first contest you won?

No, I actually won this one Damn Am qualifier once before. Phoenix Am was a lot of fun though.

Do you still get jitters?

Yeah, I always get a little nervous in contests, but it's cool. It's always fun.

I know you and Paul have matching pinkie rings, are you considering getting a tattoo as well?

I was considering it before Paul got one. And our rings don't match, Actually, I owe Paul a few months rent, So I think I'm going to let it go a for few more months, and then give him the ring. That way I flossed for free.

What tattoo would you get?

I'd probably buy a dog, name him something cool, and then get my dog's name tattooed.

What was your favorite part in Yeah Right!?

Froston.
