Ryan Beavers

Thrasher Magazine,  July, 2008  by Conor Kelly

FOR YEARS, Mr Beavers had braved the harsh elements of skate and art life in the Midwest, waiting for the right time to make his escape and take the epic journey to the heart of the scene in SE Originally from Toledo, OH--the land where a good red curb is hard to find, winter feels like it's eight months long, and road trips to neighboring cities and other states' skateparks ate the norm--Ryan has seen a lot in his days. Skating and drawing have been in his blood since birth, and they continue to be the two things he cares about most in life, with chicks and partying falling to the wayside. Although I only first met him a couple years ago, I've seen progression in his work and skating since our first pushes down the street.

His art runs the gamut: from the early VCJ-fashioned skull work that graces our house, to wood and metal constructions, to this collection of detailed SF spots, which are my personal favorites. His work continues to vary and evolve to the point that staleness is not ah option, and killer shit is the general outcome. The guy seriously never gets tired of anything (40s of High Life, Bob's Donuts, and is always down for skating. He's a pleasure to kick it with and is good for a fun session anywhere, whether it be a loading dock half-Cab fest or a night mission in Chinatown. Don't sleep on the Beavers, 'cause he will come up when you least expect it.
