Tent City Antihero movie premiere: Theatre Artaud, April 15, 2004, SF, CA

Thrasher Magazine, July, 2004 by Darin Howard

DURING THE SUMMER, Julien organizes little skate jams on Florida Street. A couple of flat bars and some beer, and the best sessions would go down, I never would have thought that the spot would be where Antihero's movie, Tent City, would premier, Theatre Artaud, at 450 Florida St, is a huge art gallery that caters to live performances and shows that stay for weeks. But for one night it was filled for NCP Films and Anti Hero's movie. With 400 people spilling off the sidewalk, I was suckered into working the door for a quick 50 bucks and all the cases of beer I could confiscate. The loudest cheer went up when Cardiel walked through the crowd, up the stairs and in the doors.

Shot on both film and video, Tent City is a documentary-style movie about a trip through Australia with Antihero and friends Max Schaaf, Joey Tershay, Steve Bailey, and Malt Rodriguez. Afterwards. the look on people's faces said it all: They'd just seen a sick movie and were amped to ride. Gonz was so inspired he tried to kickflip his bike, twice. There was an after party at Benders a couple blocks away where everyone met up. Cardiel walked there. Frank Gerwer threw up on the bartender. Good times. Antihero's Tent City, the Dogtown movie for today.
