AWFUL TRUTH

PORT HURON: FIRETRUCKS, YES; GRINDING, NO

The Times Herald--City officials made it illegal to grind skateboards, damaging concrete fixtures throughout the city. Grinding, in which a skateboard is moved along the edge of a surface, now is illegal under an ordinance passed by the City Council. Officials had proposed banning skateboarding in Pine Grove Park, but that idea sparked opposition from the public and some on the council. Katie Byrne, who helped with the effort to build a skatepark at Optimist Park, couldn't believe anyone would ban skating in the park. Violating the grinding ban is a misdemeanor and punishable by up to 90 days in jail and/or a fine of up to $500.

POET'S CORNER

Fifty thousand miles down a cold
   and empty road of stone
been on the highway quite a while
seems like I'll never make it home.
This road trip started right about 1985.
   I've died a hundred times,
   but somehow I'm still alive.
the stories stackin' up so high
I think I'm gonna have to write a book
   about trials and tribulations
I'll have to take another look.
About satan looking me in the eyes
and then he ran the other way,
   about all the missionaries
who think their religion is here to stay
about the connections with the people
who have carried me on this quest
   the believers, the deceivers from
the north, south, east and west.
This road has worn me out so much
but it keeps my senses sharp
   everyday is pure survival
   blood beats through my heart
50 thousand miles down a cold
   and empty road of stone,
I ride through every curve and turn.
This earth I am forever cursed to roam.
