FORTUNE BRANDS BUYS DOOR MANUFACTURER THERMA-TRU

Therma-Tru, the leading designer and manufacturer of residential and commerical fiberglass and steal entry doors in the United States, now is part of Fortune Brands, a $6 billion consumer brands giant.

The addition of the Therma-Tru brand expands the company's fast-growing Home & Hardware business, which also includes Mean, the No. 1 faucet brand in North America; MasterBrand Cabinets, the No. 2 kitchen and bath cabinet business; Master Lock, the world's leading padlock brand; and Waterloo Industries, the leading manufacturer of tool storage products.

Therma-Tru's annual sales exceed $400 million. Fortune Brands paid about $925 million for the door maker. Fortune Brands officials say the Therma-Tru purchase creates opportunities for sales growth and cost synergies within the Home & Hardware business.

Founded in 1962 by David K. Welles Sr., Therma-Tru pioneered the fiberglass entry door industry with the introduction of the Fiber-Classic wood-grained door.
