Rethinking Schools - News for Educational Workers - Brief Article

Radical Teacher, Fall, 2002

Rethinking Schools: an Urban Educational Journal, a non-profit, independent newspaper advocating the reform of elementary and secondary public schools, stresses a grassroots perspective combining theory and practice and linking classroom issues to broader policy concerns, and encourages teachers, parents, and students to become involved in building quality public schools for children.

Two recent issues center around important educational themes. Spring 2002 focuses on Special Education: Promises and Problems. "No program is steeped in more controversy and confusion. A look at the history and funding of special ed, and the major issues facing Congress as it reauthorizes the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act." Summer 2002 focuses on The Enduring Legacy of Racism. "How can teachers address racism and white privilege--in their classrooms, personal lives, and educational institutions?"
