April 8-10, 2005, the CUNY Graduate Center offered a Queer Grassroots Organizing Weekend, which taught the tools to solve the problems transgender, bisexual, lesbian, and gay students face on campus and in the community.
According to Gay.com (April 15, 2005), opponents are organizing counter-protests against The National Day of Silence, a day to acknowledge how GLBT students are silenced in schools on a regular basis. To record the school or campus atmosphere around your Day of Silence, share your experiences with Gay.com or PlanetOut.
Colorado State University blocked transgender lesbian activist Leslie Feinberg as the keynote speaker for the Colorado Feminist Alliance's April 21 Take Back the Night rally. The university required Feinberg to sign a contract with two egregious clauses: one made Feinberg liable for anything that might occur at the event and the other "indemnified" the university from any responsibility. When Feinberg would not sign, the university would not budge. To join Feinberg in the struggle against the campaign to block progressive speech and organizing, contact tgwarrior@earthlink.net.
