Mountainous bi's and horseshoe tri's: MuscleTech gives you straight-up advice for bigger guns

Flex, Feb, 2004

Who would have thought that one simple movement could cause so much devastation? While it may seem like a simple action, when Johnnie Jackson or Mat Duvall bends an arm, total chaos breaks loose in the world of men's clothing! Not unlike a collision of tectonic plates during an earthquake, when these two armed and dangerous men flex their guns, muscle meets cotton in a battle of supremacy, and the smart money is with the muscle. With his arm girth measuring over 24 inches, Mat "Bodybuilding's Strongest Arms" Duvall may very well be the dictionary's next visual example of Arm-ageddon. And make no mistake about it--while they may look like rods of bent rebar straining to burst through a tight layer of skin, Johnnie Jackson's colossal triceps are a wake-up slap-in-the-face to those who believe only biceps make an arm big. So shirtsleeves beware! Here's some of the best advice there is for building mountainous bi's and horseshoe tri's, and no amount of double stitching is going to save you now!

Fire Up Your Guns

Don't even let the idea that this is going to be easy enter your head. These guys have worked hard and still do to keep building the guns that defy reality. In order to truly benefit from this type of training, you'll need to split up your workouts. Schedule your workouts so you avoid doing biceps on back day and triceps on chest day. These muscles get their fair share of work on those days also. By doing bi's and tri's on the same day, you'll essentially be working guns twice a week.

Bicep-Blastin' Basics

Keepin' it simple is what it's all about. You'll need to lift hard and heavy if you want to bring out those peaks. These basic bicep exercises are going to blast your biceps into a whole new world of growth. Always remember to:

1. Keep the reps low (to a maximum of 8), progressively increasing the weight while decreasing the reps.

2. Make sure you can barely get that last rep up so that you're lifting the really heavy weights.

3. Always practice proper form. Jerking your back may get the heavier weight up, but that's exactly what you'll be working--your back.

4. For maximum isolation during a curling movement, keep your elbows close to your sides and try not to let them move out.

Saddle Up For Some Horseshoe Triceps

While biceps may be the marquee muscle of the arm, many tend to forget the tricep is what rounds out the whole big-gun package. Having big biceps and non-existent triceps puts a lot of stress on the weaker muscle, as the stronger, larger muscle is overpowering it. Plus, a raised gun looks far better with a beefy slab of muscle hanging underneath it. You'd be amazed at how much your arm measurements will go up once your triceps start to grow!

Make sure you keep your repetitions strict, and try not to rely on shoulder strength when you approach failure. Cable pushdowns, seated triceps extensions, and dips make up the core exercises for your massive triceps workout.

Fuel For The Massive

Protein. It's the building block of rock-solid muscle and you have to have it if you want bigger guns. Look at it this way--you intend to spend the next few months working your tail off to get the kind of arms that short-sleeve T-shirts were made for. So why would you do anything but get the most out of those grueling workouts? Sure, you'll see some results by just following the training listed above, but your results can be even better when you add a scientifically developed source of protein to your diet. One company that actually takes the time to research its products is MuscleTech R & D Inc., and its big-gun fuel is NITRO-TECH.

Before you start making excuses why you can't be using NITRO-TECH and how you don't have the kind of time it takes to add an exceptional supplement like NITRO-TECH to your diet and training, consider the facts. Then head out to a fine health-food retailer in your area.

If you want a protein powder that will help you build smokin' guns, then here's great news! NITRO-TECH powder is now available in new, improved flavors. NITRO-TECH is also available as a convenient RTD. What's an RTD, you ask? It means "Ready-To-Drink." That is, in the time it takes to put it in your hand and open the lid, you've got 45 grams of protein ready to feed your starving bi's and tri's. NITRO-TECH RTDs are available in both cans and bottles, each having a unique formulation. As if that weren't enough, NITRO-TECH can also be found as a soft, delicious protein bar. Available in 7 sensational flavors, these bars are jam-packed with 35 grams of musclebuilding protein.

What's truly outstanding about the NITRO-TECH powder is that it has been scientifically shown to work. In one study, subjects using NITRO-TECH powder gained an average of over 8 pounds of mass in just 6 weeks by combining it with diet and weight training! That breaks down to an average of over a pound a week! In this same 6-week study, NITRO-TECH powder users added an average of over 30 pounds to their max bench press! Imagine the results you could be getting with barbell curls or dips! While your results will vary, one extraordinary NITRO-TECH subject in this study gained 10.5 pounds of mass and added 40 pounds to his max bench, all in just 6 weeks! These results are incredible!
