NYP in NYC

Flex, May, 2009 by Shawn Perine

On Saturday, May 16, 2009, promoter Steve Weinberger is set once again to entertain us with NYC's only IFBB pro show, the New York Pro Championships, held at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center. The second-longest-running professional bodybuilding competition on the IFBB circuit--only the Olympia has been around longer--the New York Pro (formerly the Night Of Champions) debuted in 1978 with Robby Robinson taking home the winner's trophy. Since then, it has set the standard for East Coast bodybuilding, with a who's who list of champions, such as Kai Greene (left), the '08 winner.

Last year's contest was also home to the first-ever 202-and-under show, won by Kevin English (right). The rapidly expanding division--from five shows in 2008 to seven in 2009--will once again share center stage with the open class.

Grab your tickets for the New York Pro today by calling Bev Francis Powerhouse Gym at (516) 933-1111. Go to bevfrancis.com for more information.
