LAW #1--Train with Intensity
Intensity isn't your ability to scream or throw your weights to the ground after a heavy set. It's your ability to focus all your anger, stress, and energy into one moment in time! Even before you set foot in the gym, you've got to be focused on the workout ahead. Visualize every exercise, set, and rep that you'll be banging out. By mentally preparing yourself for your workouts, you'll have better focus and intensity!
LAW #2--Train Heavy
Lifting heavy weights is vital for maximum muscle gains. Stick to mainly using basic free-weight exercises, and avoid doing too many machine or cable exercises. Also try to keep your rep count fairly low. Performing between 4 to 8 reps for each set is a good rule of thumb to follow. As for sets, stick with 3 or 4 per exercise, and try to hit at least 2 or 3 different exercises per body part.
LAW #3--Rest and Recover
If all your focus has been on training in the gym and you haven't taken time off to recover, you could be in a state of muscle loss rather than a state of muscle gain. Think about it for a minute. If you're training hard seven days a week, your muscles are never going to get a chance to recover and grow--you're constantly breaking them down! You trash your muscles in the gym, but they grow when you're out of the gym and resting. So make sure to schedule days off from training each and every week to allow your muscles to recuperate.
LAW #4--Follow a Diet Plan
If you don't follow a proper nutrition plan, then chances are you'll have a hard time achieving your massbuilding goals. You've got to make sure you're taking in enough calories to put your body in a positive caloric balance at the end of each day. Basically, this means that you need to take in more calories than you burn off. This way your body will be able to use the extra calories to promote new muscle growth.
Now, if you haven't gained any size in a while, then you'll definitely want to make a conscious effort to increase the amount of calories you're eating. Just make sure those calories come from high-quality protein sources, complex carbs, and essential fats. Don't waste your time filling up on empty calories. Simply try to increase your calorie intake by eating more clean food and using advanced supplements!
