Allergy season seems to be in full bloom year round.
From increased airborne pollutants, rising levels of indoor allergens due to better and tighter construction methods, and poor ventilation, we seem to be plagued by constant stuffy noses, scratchy throats and itchy, burning eyes. Here arc some of the best ways to remain among the breathing when allergies threaten to knock you out.
INDOORS: Use a dehumidifier at home to minimize culturing dust mites and mold. Open a window or use a fan after a steamy shower or bath to allow 7. the humidity to escape. Choose a vacuum cleaner with a Hepa filter Consider replacing carpeting with wood, lam mate, vinyl or tile floors, and buying leather furniture. Wear a face mask while cleaning house. Substitute shades for blinds. Use allergen-free bedding, and remove down-filled blankets and feather pillows. Wash all sheets and bedding weekly in the hottest water possible.
OUTDOORS: Check the pollen counts in the newspaper; generally, they're worse in the early morning and on windy days. Stay inside with the windows closed and the air conditioner running on high-pollen days. Wear a disposable surgical mask when working outdoors. Leave all gardening tools, including outer clothing, outdoors, and shower immediately after working outdoors.
PETS: Have someone else bathe your pet weekly and brush it outdoors several times a week. Use a room air cleaner Wash your hands after touching or handling a pet. Keep pets out of your bedroom.
