Wear to go: kill the chill; Yes, baby it's cold outside, but dress right and you'll hardly notice

Get Layered

Even though your body warms up as you exercise, it's still important to cover up thoroughly when working out outdoors. Cold, wind and precipitation can make you mighty uncomfortable, not to mention put you at risk for hypothermia. Although it might seem like piling on bulky layers offers the best protection, in fact, wearing three thin--but efficient--layers works best. For your innermost layer, choose a garment made from polypropylene or olefin. Both fabrics wick perspiration away from your skin while natural fibers like cotton and wool tend to get damp and clammy with sweat. The second layer serves as an insulator, so choose something that will trap warm air generated by your body heat but let you move without restriction. A wool sweater, fleece pullover, or even a long-sleeved thermal tee will do the job. Your final layer should be a light, easy-to-open jacket that will act as a shield from water and wind. Look for a jacket that's both breathable and waterproof--that is, something that allows your sweat to evaporate yet still prevents outside moisture from seeping through. Gore-Tex and other synthetics made for this purpose are your best bets. And don't forget accessories--a hat, mittens and even a face guard or bandanna if it's windy. Last but not least, smear on some sunblock. The sun's rays still do damage even when it's cold outside.
