Big audio dynamite - WIP - MACH 1000 audio system from Visteon Corp - Brief Article

Automotive Design & Production, Jan, 2002 by Gary S. Vasilash

Visteon Corp. was a supplier of radios to Ford Motor Co. long before there was such a thing as Visteon. But nowadays, it has to compete for the business. As Delphi has done a job of branding its upscale audio systems with the name "Monsoon," Visteon is taking a similar course with its MACH series.

Visteon launched the brand in October, 2000. This past September it announced that the MACH 1000 is making its debut on a production vehicle, the 2002 Mustang.

One of the issues that OEM-focused audio suppliers like Visteon face is that some people, when they buy a vehicle, go straight to the aftermarket for their listening gear. The goal of a supplier, then, is to provide a product that is factory-installed that meets the requirements of the more discerning ears. That way, both the supplier and the OEM benefit.

So the MACH 1000 is one answer. it provides 1,000-W of sound, which even the press materials admit "can actually be felt without causing distortion." (When a Mustang appeared in our lot equipped with the system for demonstration purposes, we were thinking that the Plymouth police were going to be paying us a visit.)
