Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedDoing the heavy lifting - In Gear - Brief Article
Automotive Design & Production, April, 2002
Who: Air Technical Industries (Mentor, OH)
What: Tire-wheel gripper-lifter-positioner
Why you should care: This gripper-lifter-positioner, which I will call the GLP for short, can lift tires up to 48 in. in diameter and 500 lbs. and stack them horizontally, or turn them 90 degrees for installation in the vertical position.
Pertinent Data: The gripping action is cam activated, so the heavier the tire and wheel the greater the gripping force. The release can be pneumatic, hydraulic or manually operated depending on the customer's situation. The GLP can be used with an overhead crane, jib crane, articularm manipulator or mobile hydraulic floor crane.
