Firstek Ltd. is a prototype part manufacturer in Basildon, Essex, U.K., that employs two five-axis laser-cutting machines--a Prima Optimo and a Prima Rapidio--to produce parts for customers including Visteon, GKN, and Federal Mogul. It has replaced the programming package that it had been using since 1997 with PEPS SolidCutLaser software from Camtek Ltd.

Speaking of the change, Rob Blackwell, technical manager at Firstek observes, "Programming was at least 50% quicker than the previous system, mainly because PEPS is solids-based and can utilize the solid information stored against the part." He adds, "A part that might have taken 5-6 hours to take from a drawing to code can now be done in two or three hours, which, over the course of a week, saves me about a day."
