Large Face milling cutters can be challenging to inspect and preset. The challenge is ameliorated by the 5TP-Milly unit available From KPT/Kaiser (Elk Grove Village, IL]. The unit, designed by KPT/Speroni, is available in two sizes: 500-mm diameter by SOD-mm. height and 500-mm diameter by 1,100-mm height. The CNC-controlled, three-axis movement means that operations can be performed operator-Free (of course, there must be an operator to load the device, which can be done with a quick-change tooling adapter system in under eight seconds; the unit is designed with an ergonomic Front-load access]. A digital tool-sensing device assures that errors related to operator judgment are eliminated, The positioning accuracy is 1 micron. A precision rotating spindle assembly helps provide a maximum total runout of 0.003 mm at 300 mm, regardless of the holder type [ISO, HSK, etc.].

Also available is the STP-HS tool presetting and measuring system, which is specifically developed For handling turn and turn/turn broaching tools [such as those used For producing crankshafts]. This system is capable of measuring tool diameters between 552 mm to 850.9 mm. It is available as a manual unit, manual/motorized, or Full CNC. It has a proprietary hyperstatic adapter mechanical clamping system that permits adapter mount repeatability of 0.0005 mm.

When either the 5TP-Milly or the [NE version of the STP-HS are used with the KPT/Speroni b@ncaDatilnternet software and the KPT/Speroni Vision System, users can create the ability to achieve inspection certification of their tools by simply pushing a single Function button, thereby minimizing possible input errors.
