Laser diode array

Automotive Design & Production,  June, 2007

The SIRILAS laser diode array from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors (www.osram-os.com) boasts a heat sink on which the laser bar is centered. A simple channel design insures the water passages are not blocked by corrosion over time, and reduces thermal resistance. An integrated lens produces an almost parallel beam with a typical vertical divergence of one degree. Combining multiple pumping modules make it possible to pump high-power solid-state lasers that can be used as an alternative to C[O.sub.2] lasers for material processing, like the one shown from RayTools (www.raytools.ch).
