Akebono Corp

Automotive Design & Production,  August, 2004

Although you're probably looking at the Porsche, what you're really looking at is a Porsche in a new chassis noise dynamometer that has gone into use at the Akebono Corp. North America R & D center in Farmington Hills, MI. This dyno has a 500 hp motor; the chamber it is housed in has environmental controls that permit temperature adjustment from 0 to 100[degrees]F and relative humidity adjustment from 20% to 90%. The purpose of the machine is to facilitate brake system noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) testing. This is the second chassis dyno that is housed in the R & D center, which now has 22 brake dynos. By the way: in addition to sports cars, the new unit can test up to Class 4 and 5 medium-duty trucks, too.
