Assembly inspection sensors - In Gear

Automotive Design & Production,  Sept, 2002

Who: LMI Selcom (Southfield, MI)

What: SLS5000 single point non-contact industrial gauging sensor

Why you should care: Selcom says that its sensors can measure the position of cam roller followers and valve keepers in engine assembly operations with 100% effectiveness, even at high production line speeds.

Pertinent Data: The SLS5000 has an integrated sensor built into the head and a processor for data averaging and filtering. It uses laser triangulation and has a dynamic laser feedback loop that provides accurate measurement even when there are changes in speed, ambient light, color, temperature of material or plant environmental conditions. Repeatability is up to 16,000 times a second. The sensors interface with most computer and PLC systems, are inexpensive to integrate into existing systems and use little power.
