American author Ann Patchett has won the Orange Prize for Fiction - a GBP30,000 prize which is awarded only to women.
Her novel 'Bel Canto', which features a group of Latin terrorists who discover their intended kidnap target has stayed at home to watch a soap opera, won her the award. The prize is awarded each year with the funds being provided by an anonymous donor.
