Micronix, a division of IXYS Corp, has introduced its new display driver IC, the MX834, targeted at emerging markets that value ultra-low power, easy-to-read displays for use in portable devices.

The MX834 is claimed to be the first standard product driver for electronic paper displays based on E Ink Corp's electronic ink technology.

The first commercial application for the MX834 is in a display module manufactured by electronics company Royal Philips Electronics for use in a new high-resolution e-book reader.

The e-book reader is scheduled to go on sale in Japan in late April 2004.
