Lonely Planet announces partnership with PlayStation

Travel guide publisher Lonely Planet and has announced that it has entered into a partnership with software publisher Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) to develop a series of fully interactive and portable city guides for use on the PSP (PlayStation Portable).

The 'Passport to...' range from Lonely Planet will be available on PSP's UMD (Universal Media Disc) format from September 2006. Six guides will reportedly be available covering the European cities of Amsterdam, Barcelona, London, Paris, Prague and Rome.

In addition a dedicated website at http://www.PSPpassport.com will offer further content to be downloaded.

Each guide includes details on 250 bars, clubs, hotels, shops, services and attractions as well as interactive road and transport maps; bespoke photo and video; three 'off-the-beaten track' audio tours; pre-planned itineraries; and language phrases with audio.

According to the companies, the range will be sold in 110 countries across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. No pricing information was available.
