Publishers Random House and Hachette have announced that they are to offer a number of books in the UK that can be read on a hand-held screen.
From this autumn the publishers will offer a selection of downloadable versions of titles by authors including Ian McEwan, Joanne Harris and Terry Pratchett.
According to The Sunday Times, the decision has been made to follow the launch of two devices due to come on sale in the UK over the next few months: Sony's Reader and Amazon's Kindle. These devices enable readers to download novels from publishers' websites and will retail for around GBP200.
