Sterling Order Management solution implemented for Borders.com

Sterling Order Management from Sterling Commerce (Sterling), a subsidiary of US communications holding company AT&T Inc (NYSE:T), has been implemented by Borders Group Inc (NYSE:BGP), a global retailer of books, music and movies, for the new Borders.com website launched this week.

Sterling said its solution provides order management capabilities enabling and supporting complex cross-channel selling and fulfilment, helping Borders deliver an improved shopping experience for its customers. It manages the complete order lifecycle, supporting order capture and managing fulfilment through payment authorisation for Borders.com.

The solution uses its Native Service Oriented Architecture (SOA); intelligent sourcing engine to direct fulfilment; process-centric order broker to provide a unified view of the order; and inventory synchronisation capabilities in order to aggregate global inventory.

Sterling Order Management provides a contextual, unified view of the order, helping Borders to improve efficiencies by ensuring information is accessible and actionable; and captures exceptions, with an alert notification modeller to ensure orders are completed accurately and on time. It offers end-to-end visibility, improves inventory utilisation, reduces excess safety stock and minimises lost sales due to stock-outs, while allowing Borders to establish its own sourcing rules.
