The anniversary of Wind in the Willows first being published is being marked by a competition, organised by the River & Rowing Museum in Henley, Oxfordshire, to write a modern version.

Wind in the Willows, written by Kenneth Grahame, was published 100 years ago on 8 October 1908.

Paul Mainds, on behalf of the museum, said the competition will give authors and fans of Wind in The Willows the opportunity to produce a story in which the characters of the original book experience 21st century life.

According to the BBC, Grahame worked at the Bank of England for 30 years before writing Wind in the Willows. An exhibition on Grahame's working life will open on 8 October 2008 at the Bank of England museum.
