NC State and Waste Industries 'Chuck It' - Back Page - Brief Article
Recycling Today, Oct, 2003
Waste Industries USA Inc., a Raleigh, N.C.-based solid waste services company, has announced a partnership arrangement with the North Carolina State University Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling.
The "Chuck It" recycling program is the brainchild of Paul Mobley, a sophomore mechanical engineering major from Raleigh, N.C., and was introduced at North Carolina State University's home football games this fall.
Sarah Ketchem, programs manager from the North Carolina State University Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling says, "N.C. State has the potential to divert more than 50 tons of material from the landfill during a single football season."
Jim W. Perry, president and CEO of Waste Industries USA Inc., says, "This alliance was brought about through the efforts of many people and emphasizes the ongoing efforts of Waste Industries to participate within the community to encourage recycling of cans and bottles."
Special "Chuck It" zones, named after N.C. State football coach ChuckAmato, are located throughout the parking lots and outside the gates of Carter Finley Stadium. In addition, "Chuckwagons" cruise the parking lots of Raleigh's RBC Center prior to games, collecting cans and bottles from fans as they tailgate before NC State's WolfPack takes the field. N.C. State student volunteers and Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling workers staff the program. Video announcements featuring coach Amato and Waste Industries' Perry remind Wolfpack fans to recycle.
Additional support for the "Chuck It" Recycling Program was provided through a grant from the Wake County Environmental Services.
