Recycling Today, Nov, 2002
ForestExpress, Atlanta, has announced that year-to-date it has registered almost 40,000 transactions worth an estimated $200 million over its network. The company, which bills itself as a transaction processing network for the forest products industry, says the volume derives from an array of customers throughout the supply chain, "from raw materials procurement to finished goods."
The support of several leading forest products companies, including Boise Cascade Corp., Georgia-Pacific Corp., International Paper, MeadWestvaco Corp. and Weyerhaeuser Co., helped to establish www.ForestExpress.com.
"We continue to help e-commerce adoption in the industry by focusing on providing the core infrastructure needed to conduct business electronically between trading partners," says Bob Renner, ForestExpress CEO.
Weyerhaeuser is among the companies using the Web site. "We've seen the volume of electronic transactions increase 50 percent since connecting to ForestExpress," says Mike Jackson, vice president of Weyerhaeuser Co.'s Fine Paper Business. "Our customer support team is seeing real proof that integration is providing efficiencies and over time this will lower costs for both the company and our customers."
ForestExpress has focused on providing business-to-business connectivity and catalog content services as well as transaction services for the buying and selling of timber through the ForestExpress Timber Trading Center.
