From scrap to sculpture
Recycling Today, Dec, 2004
American Iron, Minneapolis, has announced the winners of its fourth annual Metal Sculpture Competition held in conjunction with the Minneapolis Aquatennial Celebration in July.
The artwork is built from scrap from American Iron. The company sponsors the contest to encourage local artists and to promote recycling.
The sculptures were judged on originality, artistic merit and creative reuse of recyclable materials.
The winners in the large category are:
* First place--Dirk DuBois, "Beast of Burden" and Shell Koland, "Feng Shui/Friendship Symbol"
* Second place--Cheryl Fitgerald, "Two Faced" and Justin Peters "Untitled"
* Third Place--Andrew Murphy, "Last Bite"
The winners in the small category are:
* First place--Dillion Allen, "Nectarlicious"
* Second place--Christopher Rand, "Tumbler" and Gail Katz-James, "Entwined Vase"
* Third place--Kristen Hansen, "The Comb Over"
