Too good to toss? - Back Page - Brief Article

Recycling Today, Jan, 2004

What do construction companies do with surplus supplies? What do demolition contractors do with useful items they encounter in buildings scheduled for demolition? What can homeowners do about sofas or leftover decking cluttering their garages?

In the past, the landfill was the answer. The Washington State Department of Ecology and its participating city and county partners are offering an alternative solution that's as easy as surfing the Web.

The www.2good2toss.com Web site is the place to find new and re-usable construction materials and large household items.

"Think of it as an on-line garage sale, where the valuable items are free or low cost," Shelly McClure, coordinator of the on-Dine-exchange project for the Department of Ecology, says.

The ability to post to the www.2good2toss.com site is limited to people within the participating counties and cities, but anyone can browse the site and contact owners directly to make transaction and pick-up arrangements.
