Lovee, the vegetarian dog
Vegetarian Baby and Child, March-April, 2003 by Carol LaLiberte
My son and I loved looking through the Planet Dog catalog together, although it did seem a bit too focused on big dogs. Since we have a wee little doggie, we are a wee bit sensitive to marketers who think all dogs are golden retrievers, Labs or other large breeds.

Products That Protect Pets:
Those of us who are fortunate to share our homes with animal companions know that they are a large part of our lives. Unfortunately, these loyal friends don't always receive the protection that they deserve. The following items offer pets protection and may even save their lives some day.
Quality First Aid Kit Helps Less Fortunate Animals, Too!
The Humane Society of Canada
Tel: 1-800-641-5463
As with our human family members, we should be prepared for emergency situations that may arise with our animal companions. Having a quality first aid kit nearby and being familiar with its contents and how to use them is very important. The Humane Society of Canada produces a quality, compact, well-supplied animal first aid kit (even change is included to make a phone call). Also included is an informative, 28-page first aid manual. Money from the sale of these kits supports the programs of The Humane Society of Canada, so this kit helps not only your pets, but less fortunate animals as well!
Pet ID Tags & Recovery Service Protects Animal Companions
Lucky Pet
Web: www.luckypet.com
Tel: 1-800-543-8247
Lucky Pet produces quality identification tags (plastic or metal) for pets. These tags contain considerable information, are inexpensive, and have a lifetime guarantee. All of our dogs wear plastic Lucky Pet tags, which come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors.
Lucky Pet also offers an innovative, effective pet recovery system called Owner Alert! Pet Recovery Service! This service uses Lucky Pet's 24-hour, toll-free hotline and their personalized ID tag. With this service (which I strongly recommend), Lucky Pet engraves their toll-free number on the tags as well. If someone finds your pet and you can not be reached at home, Lucky Pet tries to contact you through additional (up to four) phone numbers (work, relatives, veterinarian, etc.) that you have provided until you are in contact with the person who has found your pet. This service also allows you to provide Lucky Pet with a new set of temporary phone numbers if you and your pets go on vacation or on a trip. Owner Alert! Pet Recovery Service! is good for seven years. If you move or your phone number changes, make sure that you let Lucky Pet know.

RE: Lovee, the vegetarian dog
I Just got a puppy on Friday. It was torture waiting the weekend feeding it the puppy chow from the breeder, she is 8 weeks old. But, I went cold turkey with the puppy yesterday after fasting the puppy for about 15 hours and gave it evolution diet dog food (veganessentials.com, veganstore.com and the company's website). At first the dog at one bit and a few minutes later spit up. It seemed scared of the new food. Then, I held it and it played with the food in my hand, but always spitting it back out. At night, it ate a few pieces, and then a whole cup. This morning, it yummied up the whole bowl at one time. It loves it. The food is completely vegan. When it gets older, or when I learn more what to feed it, I hope to go all organic. To me, it is more important to have the vegan first. Our puppy is thriving and I could not be happier. I am getting it all organic cotton toys and a bed and blanket. It's name is Fluffy and it is a mix between a midsized poodle and bichon. It is all white fluff and curls.
Go get your puppy and over night the food. Just go cold turkey and the puppy will be fine. Give it lots of love and hold it all the time the first several days and night. We also give it tours of the house when it wakes up....here is the Christmas tree...here is where mommy works.... We also brought the puppy home with nothing. Sometimes, that might be the best way to do it. Sometimes, you just have to live you life and go for it when things seem to line up to do it.
Hope that helps.
