New Fort Eustis school honors past MTMC Commander

A new elementary school to be built at Fort Eustis, Va., will honor the late Maj. Gen. John Henry Stanford, a past commander of the Military Traffic Management Command. Construction of the Maj. Gen. John Henry Stanford Elementary School will begin this spring. The $8.8 million dollar building, designed for 634 students, will be ready for occupancy in September 2003.
Stanford was commander of MTMC from 1987-1989. When he died, Nov. 28, 1998, he was serving as superintendent of the Seattle Public Schools.
