Maj. Gen. Kathleen M. Gainey, 15th commander of SDDC, relinquished command May 12 to Brig. Gen. Brian R. Layer, SDDC deputy commanding general. Layer served as acting commander until June 30, when Brig. Gen James L. Hodge assumed command in a ceremony at Scott Air Force Base (see page 7 for the fall story and photos.) Gainey was confirmed for the rank of lieutenant general and now serves as the Army G-4.
