Capt. Philip S. Raumberger was recognized as SDDC's top junior officer during the command's Annual Training Symposium in Atlanta.

Raumberger was named by SDDC leadership as the Maj. Gen. Henry Del Mar Junior Officer of the Year. He serves with SDDC's 841st Transportation Battalion in Charleston, S.C., as the port operations officer. Prior to coming to SDDC in April 2007, Raumberger was an Infantry Officer with 101 st Airborne Division and deployed twice to Iraq.

"While executing his first logistics assignment since leaving the Infantry, his exceptional performance and expertise has rivaled that of a seasoned logistician," said Maj. Isabel Geiger, operations officer for 841st Trans. Bn. "He is exactly the type of leader the Army needs and hopes for in the toughest situations; morally courageous, technically competent, and totally dedicated to excellence."

As a result of his dedication, the 841st shipped more than 8,000 MRAPs in 2008. In addition, under his watch as operations officer, the 841st has successfully handled 135 vessels, more than 1,550 trucks, 6,300 railcars and more than 30,000 pieces of rolling stock in the last year.

The Del Mar award, named for SDDC's longest-serving commanding general, is awarded to one SDDC active component officer of the rank of captain or below. The award seeks to recognize a junior officer's performance and achievements both on duty and in his community.
