POVs ship to Papa

Translog: Journal of Military Transportation Management, Summer, 2009 by Janice Griffin

On short notice in January, the Air Force requested the assistance of SDDC's Global Privately-owned Vehicle Team to assist with the establishment of POV operations at Papa, Hungary. The NATO Air Base, which supports airlift operations for 12 nations, was established in 2008.

Terry Griffin, the Global POV Program Manager in SDDC's Personal Property Directorate, developed a detailed plan for the shipment and delivery of 39 POVs to Papa, approximately 100 miles west of Budapest. Working closely with the prime contractor for the Global POV contract, Air Force staff, and the contracting officer from USTRANSCOM, the team addressed many challenges. The plan called for staging military members' POVs at the port of Bremerhaven, Germany for consolidation and line haul movement to Papa. As a result of the planning and execution by SDDC, the Air Force, and the contractor, POVs were delivered March 3 to Air Force personnel in Papa--weeks ahead of schedule and with significant savings to the government.
