Saga of the St. Paul
VFW Magazine, June-July, 2002 by Kenneth A. Van Camp
As mentioned in your minesweeper story, the USS St. Paul lost 30 sailors to a powder fire on April 21, 1952, off Wonsan.
Though they were not killed in combat, they died while actively engaged in combat operations. All 30 men were killed in the explosion in the forward 8-inch gun turret. Most of the victims died of asphyxiation. This was the greatest single loss of life for the Navy in Korean waters.
