Army Special Forces turns 50

VFW Magazine, June-July, 2002

With special operations troops the focus of so much attention in the war on terrorism, it only seems appropriate that Army Special Forces is celebrating its 50th anniversary this June.

Founded June 19, 1952, as the 10th Special Forces Group, the famed Green Berets have earned their combat reputation. The "Father of the Green Berets"--Aaron Bank, now 99--has been recommended for the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom.
