Telling the rest of the Pork Chop story

VFW Magazine, June-July, 2003

"Combat on 'The Chop'" (April) failed to mention that 1st Plt., K Co., 17th Inf. Regt., actually secured Pork Chop Hill on April 18, 1953. My unit cleaned up the hill and stayed on it for several weeks thereafter.

The Tank Company of the 31st Infantry Regiment provided direct fire support during the battle. Also, the company's utility tracked vehicles transported food and ammo to the troops on the hill, and brought back dead and wounded. Combat was just as vicious for tankers as it was for the infantry.
