Archives now accessible to public

VFW Magazine, June-July, 2003

Countless government records are now available on the Internet to the general public. Through Access to Archival Databases (AAD), administered by the National Archives and Records Administration, some 350 databases are currently accessible. Among them are:

* combat casualties from the Korean and Vietnam wars;

* POWs from WWII and Korea;

* after-action and air-sortie reports from Vietnam; and

* preservation survey of Civil War sites.

"This ground-breaking system will provide a new way for customers to access records over the Internet," said U.S. Archivist John W. Carlin. "It provides the public with ready access to essential evidence." The URL for AAD is http://www.archives.gov/aad.>
