VFW backs blue star resolution
VFW Magazine, June-July, 2003 by Tim Dyhouse
VFW Commander-in-Chief Ray Sisk notified Congress in April that the 2.6 million members of VFW and its Ladies Auxiliary fully support a resolution (H. Con. Res. 109) encouraging families of GIs to display the Blue Star Banner and, if the service-member died on duty, the Gold Star.
"With troops deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq, our nation is once again reminded of the importance of patriotism and sacrifice," Sisk said. "The Blue Star Banner symbolizes the sacrifices to protect and defend our freedom."
The Blue Star Banner dates to World War I. VFW annually honors members of the American Gold Star Mothers during the national convention's memorial service.
