Posts pay tribute to American flag: June 14 is flag day but members remember to practice—and lead by example—patriotism every day of the year

VFW Magazine, June-July, 2003

Though June 14, Flag Day, annually is set aside to honor "Old Glory," VFW members do this daily. Some examples of VFW's demonstration of patriotism include: flag donations and education programs, retiring ceremonies and disposal services.

When Wal-Mart established a program requiring all stores to fly the flag, Post 10021 in Huntsville, Ark., was asked to host a flag dedication at a local Wal-Mart store last October. Following a brief speech, VFW members and store associates Terry Fuller and Dan Rivera raised the dedicated flag.

"All that I request from you, Wal-Mart associates, is that you respect and protect our flag" said then-Post Commander Drew Whitlow at the ceremony.
