American patriot not appropriate!

VFW Magazine, August, 2003

Meanwhile, the assault on traditional American values--which 67% of Americans feel are "getting lost"--continues unabated. Reports columnist David, Limbaugh: "The University of Massachusetts at Amherst hired a firm for $10,000 to help design a new mascot to replace the Minuteman, which has been the UMass symbol since 1972."

The design firm was perturbed "with the single-gender ethnicity of the Minute-man, and the fact that he's carrying a firearm'[in the logo] also is a concern."

If ever there were a case of political correctness run amuck, this is it.

It is no wonder such nonsense surfaces considering the anti-military attitudes of teachers at lower levels of education. Fran Davidson, co-author of That's Not Fair! A Teacher's Guide to Activism with Young Children, wrote, "[Some] families talk about the necessity of war to overthrow oppressors and to protect and free people.... This was a really uncomfortable time for me."
