Employers seeking veterans
VFW Magazine, Sept, 2003 by Tim Dyhouse
Skills veterans have learned in the military are becoming more important in the current job market, according to two employment specialists.
"An increasing number of employers see the military as a good training ground for business," said Mark Mehler, co-author of CareerXRoads 2003, which lists various online job sites, in the July 14 online edition of Fortune magazine. "If you have security clearance and want to find an employer who's looking for that, check out the job ads in the Washington Post. Employers from all over the U.S. advertise there."
Fortune magazine writer Anne Fisher noted that "Many headhunters--and not just those who specialize in placing people with military backgrounds, either--have been telling me lately that a stint in one of the armed services is worth considering."
For example, she wrote that Sprint is accepting vets' resumes online. According to the section "Career Opportunities-Military Recruiting" on its Web site, www.sprint.com, "Skills you learned from the military are also essential at Sprint."
