Supporting the troops

VFW Magazine, Oct, 2003

Jenessa Largent (age 12) and her family of White Bear Lake, Minn., have made and sent more than 34,000 commemorative bracelets to relatives of GIs overseas. Her project, called Harms Way 4 Kids, has orders for 20,000 more bracelets. Information about this worthy effort can be found at the Web site www.harmsway4kids.com.

Meanwhile, Senior Corps and the National Guard in Rhode Island became the first to launch the 100% Contact Campaign. It is designed to put volunteers in touch with families of GIs overseas to assist them. The Corporation for National & Community Service oversees Senior Corps. It is in turn administered by the USA Freedom Corps, a White House initiative. The contact campaign is part of the "On the Homefront" effort.
