POW compensation could increase
VFW Magazine, Nov, 2002 by Tim Dyhouse
A bill introduced in July would grant compensation to former U.S. POWs. H.R. 5235--the Former Prisoners of War Special Compensation Act--would create a new POW compensation system administered by VA instead of the Pentagon.
The new system would pay former POWs who were held 30 to 120 days $150 a month, those held 121 to 540 days, $300 a month and those detained for 540 days or more, $450 a month.
Introduced by Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) on July 25, the bill is currently pending in the House Veterans Benefits Subcommittee.
